Diagnostic Wax Up & Treatment Services

From traditional articulated wax-ups to fully digital smile planning and full-mouth rehabilitation cases, every wax-up is created to support precise diagnosis, predictable treatment outcomes, and confident patient communication.

Traditional Articulated Wax-Up

Hand-built wax-up on mounted plaster study models articulated in maximum intercuspation. Built to the tooth prescription you provide — with notes on incisal length, midline position, shade approximation, and any occlusal considerations. Suitable for single-unit crown planning, full posterior rehabilitation, and anterior smile cases. The physical model allows chairside composite mock-up directly from the wax-up.

From £85 single arch / £145 full arc

Digital Wax-Up

Designed in EXOCAD from your patient's Digital scan data. Output is a digital design file (STL) that can be shared for patient presentation, used as the basis for fabricated restorations, or printed to a stone model in our laboratory. The digital approach offers greater precision and allows design modifications to be made without rebuilding a physical wax-up from scratch. Ideal for digital-first practices.

From £85 per design

Composite Mock-Up from Wax-Up

Once your wax-up is approved, we produce a putty matrix from the wax-up that allows the dentist to place a chairside composite mock-up in the patient's mouth at the planning appointment. The patient can wear it temporarily and approve the planned result before any preparation is done. A powerful patient communication tool for cosmetic cases - and significantly easier than asking a patient to visualise from photographs alone.

From £35 additional to wax-up

Full-Mouth Rehabilitation Wax-Up

For complex full mouth wax up London cases involving posterior reconstruction and anterior aesthetics simultaneously. Mounted in centric relation, built to the planned vertical dimension, and reviewed for anterior guidance before any preparation is undertaken. These wax-ups require detailed case notes including existing vertical dimension, shift from CR to CO, and any provisional occlusal adjustments already made. Please discuss these cases directly with your named technician before submission.

From £220 full-arch

Diagnostic Wax - Common Questions

Everything dentists ask before sending us their first fixed case.

The General Dental Council (GDC) recommends thorough treatment planning documentation for complex restorative cases – a diagnostic wax-up supports exactly this standard of care.
A traditional wax-up is built by hand on plaster models and gives you a physical object you can hand to your patient, use to make a putty matrix, or mount chairside for occlusal analysis. A digital wax-up is designed and a digital scan is taken, giving you a file that can be shared digitally, modified without rebuilding, and printed to a physical model when needed. Both are valid — the right choice depends on your workflow and whether your patient is better served by a physical model or a digital preview.
Yes. A traditional wax-up can be used to fabricate a putty or silicone matrix, which allows the dentist to place a composite mock-up chairside. This mock-up can be worn temporarily by the patient before any preparation and is one of the most effective ways to gain informed consent for cosmetic cases. Alternatively, we can fabricate PMMA provisional restorations directly from the wax-up design — see our PMMA Provisional service for details.
For traditional wax-ups: send your physical impressions or printed study models by tracked post or arrange collection. Include detailed prescription notes covering tooth proportions, incisal length targets, midline reference, and any occlusal requirements. For digital wax-ups: send the IOS scan file and a written prescription to your named technician.
The wax-up fee is applied as a credit against the final restoration invoice when the complete restorative case is placed through iCare Lab. It is not refunded if the case does not proceed — the planning work has still been done — but for cases that go ahead, there is no net additional cost for the planning stage.
As a trusted diagnostic wax up dental lab London clinics use for both traditional and digital cases, our pricing is fully transparent online.
